An electric car battery may serve purposes beyond driving when the vehicle and its supporting equipment allow it. Bidirectional charging enables energy to move in both directions. Supplying a building and exchanging energy with the grid are different functions and should be assessed separately.
V2H and V2G have different destinations
Vehicle-to-home, or V2H, supplies the home. Vehicle-to-grid, or V2G, exchanges energy with the grid. The U.S. Department of Energy describes building and grid applications of bidirectional charging. This technical background does not establish whether a particular commercial service is available in France or in your own market.
Before relying on a promise, ask what is actually available for your country, vehicle version and electrical installation. A demonstration announcement or product roadmap is not a service contract.
Check the whole chain
- The vehicle model and software version.
- The charger, operating mode and supporting equipment.
- The electrical installation and connection conditions.
- The commercial service, fees and control arrangements.
- The battery warranty for the intended use.
Obtain confirmation of the complete combination from the relevant suppliers. Two products described individually as compatible do not necessarily provide evidence that they will operate together in your installation.
Availability matters as much as capacity
Write down your actual schedule: workdays, travel, parking hours and minimum departure charge. A car absent when energy is required cannot deliver the availability assumed by a theoretical model.
Build a week-by-week example, then consider holidays and changes in routine. Set aside energy for travel before calculating what may be available for other purposes. Do not treat the vehicle’s entire advertised battery capacity as available household storage.
Read an income proposal carefully
Distinguish contractually guaranteed payments from variable compensation and advertising estimates. Ask who controls cycling, how you can override it and which fees are deducted. Include availability limits and check any warranty conditions associated with the service.
The best outcome is not necessarily maximum revenue. A driver may prefer a transparent balance between mobility, savings and convenience. Before purchasing equipment, obtain written compatibility confirmation and a simulation based on when the car is actually at home. Keep mobility requirements as an explicit constraint throughout the comparison instead of adding them after the financial result has been calculated.
Sources and transparency
Sources document the principles discussed. Examples, checklists and calculations are educational tools from BatteryIncome, not quotes or performance promises. Contract terms and offers need to be checked when you assess a project.
